Over 60k homes are without power already in Lousiana, and Ida’s eye hasn’t even hit land yet. The earliest that power will return is after it’s safe enough for crews to work on the lines. It’s possible that hundreds of thousands of people will be without power for a week or more.

The proper word to use is “pushed” not “fall.” The US is okay with pushing people off the cliff because it’s just a return to normalcy. It’s normal to force people into the labor market by withholding what they need to live unless they do as they’re told.
